What should I be doing in my twenties?

Not quite sure what you are 'supposed' to be doing in your twenties? Let's talk about it.

In your twenties, you are supposed to graduate from university, you're supposed to get a professional job, start building a career, settle down, buy a house, take a gap year, travel the world, save money, run a marathon, eat clean, be carefree, be responsible, quit your job, start a business, get married...

What if our twenties aren’t meant for ‘something’. What if it is just about trying to laugh more, connect with people and enjoy your everyday as much as you can? Regardless of if that everyday looks like a corporate job, travelling, studying… whatever it may be, I don’t really think it matters ‘what’ it is but rather ‘how’ it is.

  • How you treat other people.
  • How you treat yourself.
  • How much you laugh.

I think, as a generation, there is so much pressure on us to be everything all at once and to make the most of our “best years.”

But the problem is, everyone has a different idea of what “making the most” actually looks like.

Your parents are telling you to climb the corporate ladder.

Your TikTok feed is telling you to quit your job.

Your friends are telling you to travel.

It feels like everyone knows exactly what you should be doing except you.

Maybe our everyday life isn’t defined by what we are doing but by how we are doing it.

  • Taking the extra minute to enjoy something instead of rushing onto the next thing.
  • Being the one to ask how people are and mean it.
  • The way you take care of yourself.

So whether you’re working a 9–5, travelling, starting a business, training for a marathon, or simply trying to figure out what’s next… let's remind ourselves that that whatever the 'something' is that our twenties are for might not look like what everyone thinks it should.
